  1. I have been blessed by your friendship, as well as the friendship and prayerful support of your dear parents for countless years.

Tonight I learned of the passing of your beloved dad and admirable friend of Wayne’s and mine. My heart is torn between profound sadness and great rejoicing, knowing that he is in the very presence of the Lord in perfect joy.

Thank you for your faithfulness in the ministry the Lord has given you.

    • Marievelia, you have the most tender heart. Thank you for these kind words and your phone call last night. God bless your ministry in Guatemala.

  2. I have heard so many nice things about you from my precious daughter-in-law, Mary, that when I saw you launching your own website, I had to get in on the ground floor. May God bless you in this endeavor.

    In Christ Love,
    Beth

  3. Dear Lael (and I do mean “Dear”!),

Life is far too short, and oh, so impacted, that we are denied the joy of ready access to many who so enrich our lives.

Thank you for the nurturing role you have played in the lives of so many.

Best wishes for s robust and fulfilling year in Christ!

    Yours for the journey,
    Stan

    • Thank you Stan. I’ve missed being at Camp Allen the last couple of years, but enjoy hearing updates from Lori. I’m enjoying an Inklings reading group here in Columbia, continue learning from Lewis. Blessings on your strategic ministry at the Foundation.

  4. It was wonderful to hear you speak today at the Word Weavers Conference. I received so much encouragement in writing. I gleaned so much from all your wisdom of culture and world view. It helps me understand and make sense on the thoughts and mindset of this post modern world.

Thank you for your faithfulness to do what God has called you to do,
I pray that I will be able to do the same,
    Toni Rypkema

    • Hi Toni, (you winner, you),
Thanks so much for these kind words. I so enjoyed spending the day with writers who read and think so deeply. I just posted the Modern to Postmodern download on my “Freebie” page. I think you’ll enjoy it too!

  5. Hi Lael! Thank you for signing me up for your mailing list. We are cousins as my dad, William Richard Bills, Jr. (WR Bills) was the youngest of the Bills kids and your grandmother, Alleen Bills Graham, was the oldest. Uncle Dan and Aunt Mattie were gracious enough to take me in to their home to live for the last 3 years of high school. My mother had passed away from breast/lung cancer in 1973 and my dad (WR) was in the VA Hospital in Waco,Texas thus could not take care of me after mom’s death. I am eternally grateful for my Bills Family’s live and guidance as they completely changed the direction of my life. Aunt Alline was also very influential during my late teen years and we wrote letters to each other until her passing.

So I have always heard such wonderful inspirational stories about you although we have never met in person. I’ve met your parents and exchanged Christmas cards with your mom for many years.

I moved to San Antonio in 1979 at age 19 and live in the area still today. Cousin Gail Gambill shared your post about Family Roots and I read it with tears in my eyes. It’s so true that no matter where we go, home is still home. So I am looking forward to reading more of your posts.

Take care and may God continue to bless you and your Family. Please say hello to your mom for me. ????

    • Thank YOU for initiating the sign up. And what a delight to connect over my blog about Paris. We had such a great time there. I remember meeting your Dad at the furniture store. I’m so glad Uncle Dan and Aunt Mattie took you in and that family like my Grandmother surrounded you with love and TLC. She did the same for me! I was so blessed to have her for my grandmother.

One of the highlights of my visit was getting to have dinner with Bob and Annelle and Kathy. Kathy and I share a common interest in education. I wish we had been able to be closer. I didn’t get to see Gail.

Again, thanks for reaching out. I’m glad that we’ve reconnected and look forward to hearing more from you.

  6. I enjoyed this article, Lael, just as I enjoyed sitting in your Bible class many years ago at Tomball Bible Church.

  7. Thanks for sharing your experiences at Oxbridge. What a treat! Like you, I like to spend my vacation learning and expanding my imagination. In 2015, I joined a Globus vacation package on the Footsteps of St. Paul. This tour was based on Acts 16. This isa land/cruise vacation tour. What a JOY to see the historical places in Macedonia (now Northern Greece) where Paul and company first brought the gospel of Jesus Christ. Acts 16 is about the second missionary journey of Paul. We went to Kavala (Ancient Neapolitan), Philippi, saw the river where Lydia was baptized, Thessaloniki, Veria, Athens, Corinthians, Cencheria, and Ephesus and Patmos.
Added bonus was a visit to Meteora, Crete (Knossos), and Santorini.

I learned more about that trip seeing the actual places where Christianity grew than a whole lifetime!

On another note, Every year for 10 years now, I have been attending Willow’s Leadership Summit.

    • Ah…that’s a trip I’d love to take, Lina. There is a great sense of immediacy and impact when we learn about things in the places where they happened. So glad you had that experience!

  8. Hello again Lael! Rose and I were so glad to meet you and Jack at Oxbridge. Time flew by yet stood still there. It was amazing. We are blessed to have met you and heard your much needed presentation.
May God continually work for His glory in your lives.
    MaryFrances

    • As we were glad to meet you. Yes, Oxbridge is far more than the sum of its parts. And the best part is the people–new friends and old and great conversation. Thank you for your kind words about my presentation. So glad you found me on the web. And I look forward to staying connected.
